Signe's new repertoire consists of freshly arranged Finnish Swedish folk songs and psalms. They will perform the folk songs on the same islands from which they were collected and notated in the 1920s. In addition, the repertoire includes archipelago themed original compositions.
The lyrics, melodies and the rhythmic cadences of the folk tunes have varied through time of their existence. Signe continues this tradition through the expression of jazz, minimalism and free improvisation. Alongside the music Signe tells stories about the former residents and the life on the islands like Korpo and Vänö from over hundred years ago.
The members resided between Aug 2016 - May 2017 respectively in New York, Miami, Paris and London to pursue master studies in jazz music.
