Josefiina Vannesluoma is a contemporary vocalist and flutist living in Helsinki, Finland. She leads, composes and writes texts for Signe, Mortal Lease, Transatlanttiset, WANV and Nossa Bossa as well as for various smaller projects. The avant-jazz vocal ensemble Signe’s debut album is nominated for 2020 Jazz-Emma as well as 2020 Teosto Prize.
Born in 1990 in Turku, Vannesluoma began her musical studies with classical flute and school choirs. At age fourteen she found a Brazilian compilation album that immersed her to bossa nova and mimicing tropical rhythms. From there it didn't take her long to find interesting jazz records that engaged her with American bebop and standard repertoires and more experimental musics. Today she works increasingly in between different genres, exploring through improvisation.
Vannesluoma has pursued a Master’s Degree on Jazz Performance in December 2019 and two Bachelor's degrees in Jazz Performance (2016) as well as in Music Education (2013) at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. From August 2016 until May 2017 she lived in the US making music and studying at the University of Miami. The spring 2019 she studied with Anders Jormin at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Vannesluoma is also a dedicated pedagogue and a founder of
Jazz Voice School Helsinki (January 2020) with her Signe colleague Riikka Keränen.
